OnePlus chief executive officer (CEO), Pete Lau, has announced that OnePlus will start operating under Oppo while still retaining its independence. Recall that in January this year, OnePlus revealed that they are merging its research and development (R&D) team with Oppos.
They also said that this (R&D) relationship won’t interfere with their software front. But even before that, OnePlus and Oppo phones have earlier looked alike and in most cases shares almost the same specifications.
This has raised a lot of questions in the Android community asking if OnePlus and Oppo are now operating together. We can also recall that OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, became the Senior Vice President for Oppo in August last year.
Now OnePlus has come out to announce its full integration with Oppo mobile. This was confirmed through a press statement issued by Pete Lau on OnePlus forum. In his words, he said that this integration will expand its resources resulting in better product creation.
He also said that it will improve their efficiency in releasing stable software updates to its users. Peter Lau still maintains that the company isn’t losing its independence. He said that they will continue to operate independently while still focusing on giving its users the best available products possible.
They will continue to hold separate launch events and keep releasing OnePlus phones. Its community forum is still intact and users can send their feedback there. One thing is for sure though. We might see OnePlus phones rebadged under the Oppo brand in some markets likewise Oppo phones rebadged as OnePlus phones in another market as well.
