Honor Play 5 renders appeared weeks ago alongside its full specifications tipped by a leakster on Weibo. Now the smartphone has finally unveiled in China. It is a mid-range smartphone that comes with a quad-camera at the rear. The camera module looks like the one we saw on the Nova 8 SE. In fact, the Honor Play 5 is a rebadged Huawei Nova 8 SE.
It comes in gradient, purple and black colours. The 8/128GB trim goes for CNY 2,099 ($326) while the 8/256GB version will set buyers back CNY 2,299 ($358). Open sales in China begin on May 26.
Honor Play 5 specifications and features
The Play 5 comes with a square-shaped camera module at the rear which houses quad-camera sensors. On the front, it has a “U” cut-out housing the selfie camera. The display of the smartphone is a 6.53inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.
Under the hood, it is fuelled by the MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC. The chipset uses an Octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and it is a 7nm chipset. Graphics or gaming is handled by the capable Mali-G57 GPU.
The Play 5 is running on the Android 10 operating system. It comes in only two storage options which are 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM. There is a micro SD card slot for storage expansion. Going to the rear, the smartphone is boasting of a quad camera. The main sensor is 64MP, there is an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro.
Play 5 also has a single led flash at the rear and it can record in 4K@30fps maximum. Upfront, the device has a single camera. The sensor is 16MP which has an f/2.0 aperture. The front camera makes use of the screen flash in low light.
What is keeping the light on is a 3,800mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging. There is an under-display fingerprint scanner for security. Other features of the device include a 5G network, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0. Sensors include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass. Finally, it measures 161.6 x 74.8 x 7.5 mm and weighs 179 grams.
