Oraimo is a very reputable phone accessories brand in Africa. They have recently released their latest earbud in the market dubbed Oraimo FreePods 2. The earbud is a half-in-ear headphones and a lot of people looking to get this are actually wondering how good they sound. Well if you are one of those, welcome as I will be sharing with you my experiences while using this earbud.
First off, this FreePods 2 comes in two colors; Black and White. The black one is actually a 2baba tuned edition, A.K.A 2 Face Idibia who is also the brand ambassador for Oraimo Nigeria. I will be reviewing the 2Baba edition but if you are getting the white one, don’t worry they are still the same. Let’s get started
Oraimo FreePods 2 Box contents
Inside the box of the Oraimo FreePods 2, I must say that I liked how it is packaged. Below is what you get:
- Charging Case containing the earbuds
- User Manual
- A short MICRO USB cable
That’s all you get in the box.
Design and build quality
The earbud looks very beautiful and because it is a tuned 2baba edition, you get his signature plus a “one love” text below it. The case feels nice to the touch but they are fingerprint magnets. It also feels a bit slippery and even though it is made of plastic, it is hard to tell.
The case is not heavy at all, it weighs about 31grams which makes it light and easy to carry around. The bottom of the case is where you would find the USB port for charging. The earbuds themselves are very lightweight too, they came at 4grams each and they are very comfortable to wear.
Unlike some other earbuds, this fits very comfortably on your ear and it hardly falls off. I took this to the gym and do a lot of treadmill exercise, shaking my head and all that, it didn’t fall off. Also, this came with protection so you don’t need to worry about your sweat damaging it. If you also wear it for a long time, it won’t cause any pain in your ear. Sometimes I don’t feel like I am wearing anything.
Features and Connectivity
The earbud comes with some features that I do like a lot. It comes with touch sensors that allow you to do a lot of things. For example:
- Tap on one earbud twice to play or pause.
- Tap and hold on the left earbud for 1.5second to play the previous track.
- Tap and hold on the right earbud for 1.5second to play the next track.
- Tap on the left earbud three times to decrease the volume.
- Tap on the right earbud three times to increase the volume.
- Tap on one earbud once or twice to answer or end the call.
- Tap and hold on one earbud for 2 seconds to reject a call.
- Tap and hold on one earbud for 2 seconds when it’s under paired and music mode to activate voice assistant.
- Tap three times on one earbud (under pairing mode), the earbud will turn off automatically with the earbud status indicator turning steady red for 2 seconds clears the pairing list.
- Tap and hold on the earbud for 2 seconds, it will manually turn on.
- Tap and hold on the earbud for 5 seconds, it will manually turn off.
I found this touch sensor very useful especially when I’m far from my phone or don’t need to take it out from my pocket.
The earbuds when taken out from the case will enter pairing mode immediately and after pairing it with your smartphone or laptop, you don’t need to pair it again next time. All you need to do is take out the headphone from the case and it will connect to the previous device it was connected to immediately. When it is connected, you will actually hear 2baba’s voice saying “CONNECTED” and when you turn it off, you will also hear him say “DISCONNECTED”.
The earbud will turn off automatically when placed back in the case. It can also turn off automatically after 3 minutes if no device is connected. It has a Bluetooth 5.0 version and the talk range is 10 meters or 33 Feet. Also, the talk range can be affected by the battery level. When your battery is low, 2baba will shout “BATTERY LOW!” lol. It’s cool I must say rather than using those boring generic voices.
How long does Oraimo FreePods 2 last
They last nearly about 3.5 hours if you are playing music or 8 hours if you are not constantly playing music but only connected to your device. It has a standby time of 3 days and a half. Each earbud comes with a 37mAh battery capacity and it takes the case 2 hours to fully charge them.
The case also has a 500mAh battery capacity and it can charge the FreePods 2 approximately six times before you need to recharge it again. Recharging the case from 0 percent takes nearly 3 hours and it comes with 3 light dots indicator. The first light means it is has 0 to 33% left, the second light means that it has 33% to 66% left and the last light means that it has 66% to 100% battery.
How Oraimo FreePods 2 sounds
The FreePods 2 sounds pretty fine but it doesn’t sound much on the bass. The first time I got this, I was literally like “what? Is this the whole bass?” I love bass so much don’t blame me and of-course I know a lot of people do. So I quickly set my equalizer in Google Play Music and also turned up the bass boost to 100% before it started hitting well on the bass.
So if you are getting this for the bass, just know that by default it doesn’t hit much on the bass but you can enhance it by using third-party equalizer apps or Google Play Music app which turned out well in my case. Aside from the bass, the instrumentals and kicks came out clear and it gets super loud too.
Is Oraimo FreePods 2 Good?
